The I is a duo, consisting of the brothers Lars and Terje Sparby. Their music can be described as electronic pop music, ranging from melancholic, synth driven songs to more traditional upbeat pop based around the acoustic guitar. The band originates from Norway.

For the time being The I have been busy with releasing their new single ”Make It”, a song that has received airplay on the most important radio station for pop music in Norway. The single is a rerecording of an old demo song, and is coupled with two remixes.

The I was formed 29. Juli 2005, on Terje's birthday. Lars had just gotten hold of a cheap 2 part monophonic synth and a simple drum machine and the two started experimenting with guitars and vocals on top of programmed beats and synth riffs. The brothers have been playing in different bands together since 1996, and they bring along elements both from metal and singer/songwriter backgrounds as well as a post rock experimental attitude.

The first couple of years the band worked on defining their sound and recording demos. It was back then that the first seeds for their first proper release, Dead End Transmission, were sown; an EP dedicated to the lost heroes of small town life in the outskirts of Norway. Before the work on the EP began however, the band started receiving airplay, beginning with the demo version of “Make It”, which also put the band in the headlights of the main musical network on the internet in Norway, Urørt (www.nrk.no/urort), early in 2007. The band then followed up with an exploration of high concept songs such as Senser and Phoenix, which also made it on to the radio. It was at this time that the band started working on the music for Dead End Transmission, which they self released in late 2007. One reviewer summed up the EP with one word: “classy”.

In the summer of 2008 The I decided that they wanted to do a definite take on their most popular song Make It and rerecorded parts of it. Although up until this point the duo have done all the mixing of their own music themselves, they contacted Christian Cummings to do the mix in order to get some fresh ears to interpret the song.
